You may be feeling hesitant about starting a blog and that is a normal feeling for most people considering it. However, I’m here to tell you that starting a blog could be one of the best things you’ve ever done.
At least that is how I feel about it. I’ll share a bit of my back story as to why I started a blog and how it has helped me. I’ll also share some awesome reasons to start a blog today.
My first job out of college was for a web marketing agency. I was a new web developer and was super excited that I landed a job doing exactly what I wanted to do.
That excitement soon faded as I sat day after day in a cubicle. It continued on like that for many years from one web agency to another. It wasn’t until the final cubicle job that I was laid off and it changed everything.
I realized that I could take the opportunity to finally quit sitting in a cubicle and pursue working for myself. I didn’t want to transition into freelance work.
I had done freelance work for years and it was equivalent to working for a web agency except I had to handle everything myself. Instead, I wanted my dream:
The ideal way to achieve this is to create an online business. I didn’t have much of a start-up budget so I chose to start a blog. It has become one of the best things I’ve ever done.
With consistent effort, I was able to transition out of a job into working full-time on my blog. I’ll detail a bit more below within my reasons to start a blog.
Reason 1: It Can Be Fulfilling
For the most part, blogs are focused on one specific topic. Many bloggers start blogs on topics that they have a lot of experience with or have a strong interest in.
Successful bloggers today have blogs that focus on topics such as:
- Personal finance
- Being a mom
- Online marketing
- Law of attraction (metaphysics)
When you really enjoy the topic of your blog, it can be a fulfilling process to create content that may help other people interested in the same topic.
It is an awesome feeling knowing that what I write here may help someone discover the benefits of starting an online business.
Reason 2: You Can Create a New Stream of Income
Not everyone that starts a blog goes into it with the intent of creating a new income stream. However, the possibility is always there. I’m not sure too many people would turn down earning passive income with their blog.
There are numerous ways in which a blog can begin earning income. Some common methods include:
- Affiliate programs
- Sponsored posts
- Pay-per-click ads
- Banner ads
- CPA offers
- Online courses
You can work on your blog part-time and still earn a significant amount of monthly income. This new stream of income could help pay household bills, pay for vacations, car payments, or whatever else you can use extra income for.
The cool part is that once your blog begins earning income, it is often cumulative. There is no limit to the amount of income a blog can make. It is based on your own effort and hard work.
Reason 3: You Can Eventually Quit Your J.O.B
Yes, it is possible to blog your way out of a day job. It is exactly what I did and what a lot of bloggers have done as well.
If you want to quit a job and work for yourself, starting a blog is a great way to begin planning your escape.
Keep in mind that blogging to generate income is a slow process. It will take anywhere from months to possibly a year or two before you can generate a full-time income.
In many cases, new bloggers start off strong only to quit after a few months because they have not earned anything. Try to remember that blogging is a marathon and not a sprint.
I went into it with this mindset. I knew that my effort would pay off in the long run. Like any business, whether online or offline, you have to give it time to grow.
Reason 4: Lifestyle Freedom
My favorite thing about blogs is that they are one of the ideal online business opportunities that can provide lifestyle freedom.
This is why you will find many travel enthusiasts funding their travels with their blog earnings. It is one of the ultimate ways to achieve lifestyle freedom.
You are not tied down to one location. You can work when you want and how you want. Like sleeping in and working late into the night, you can do that.
Prefer to work on your blog early and have the rest of your day to yourself, done. Blogging definitely has some of the best perks when you treat your blog like a business.
Starting a Blog is Super Easy
There are many services that you can sign up with today and begin creating your first blog post. I don’t recommend using free blogging services.
Primarily because you will not have full ownership of your content. Let’s say that you create a blog on a free service such as Blogger or Tumblr.
Both services (and others like them) have the authority to close user accounts at any time for any reason. Or, what if the service goes out of business? Your content could disappear with them.
It is far too easy and beneficial to get your own self-hosted blog with your own domain name. All that is required is to register your own domain name, obtain web hosting, and install WordPress.
You can do all three with most commercial web hosting providers. In fact, one of the web hosting providers that I use will give you a free domain name and install WordPress for you.
It is far too easy to get a self-hosted WordPress blog. When you do this, you always retain full ownership of your content. You also are not limited to how to earn income with your blog.
Blogging can open up a whole new world for you. Whether you want to blog to express your thoughts, help people solve specific problems, or to create a new income stream and quit a job, you can do it.
The only thing that stops most people from realizing their online success is by not starting. I used an online training course that helped me learn the ins-and-outs of blogging and how to earn income online.
