The Difference Between Shopify and Dropified

Dropshipping has gained popularity for its low start-up costs and easy barrier to entry. Anyone who is new to running an online store can do so easily and with very low-risk thanks to the dropship model.

Many software companies have created dropshipping software that automates a lot of the daily tasks that come with running a dropship store.

Two such popular software include Shopify and Dropified. However, they are both quite different in how they work. In fact, they actually work together versus working apart.

I’ll explain the difference between Shopify and Dropified as well as how you can use them together to run your dropshipping business.

The Dropship Model

I want to quickly go over the dropship model and how it works. The main difference between dropshipping and a typical online store is that you do not need to buy your inventory ahead of time.

In fact, you don’t have to handle any of the products that you sell ever. That means no shipping and handling. Your dropshipping suppliers handle all of it.

the dropship model

First, you locate one or multiple dropshipping suppliers that carry the items that you want to sell.

You can do a search for dropshippers online. However, it is a very time-consuming and tedious process. Not only that, you won’t have a way of knowing if the suppliers are legitimate, reliable, and offer quality products.

An easier way to find legitimate suppliers is by using a wholesale / dropshipping directory such as SaleHoo. They have done all of the hard work of searching for quality suppliers.

Their directory contains over 8,000 vetted wholesale and dropshipping suppliers.

Another option that is quite popular amongst dropshippers is to source products from AliExpress is a large online retailer whose merchants are primarily based in China and some in the U.S.

Many of their products are offered at wholesale pricing and there are no requirements or fees to begin selling any of the products on the website.

Once you have your suppliers, you place their products into your own store. When an item sells, you then buy the product from the supplier and place your customer’s shipping information in the shipping details area.

The supplier then ships the item directly to your customer for you. Your profit is the difference in what you charged the customer and what the supplier charged you.

What is Shopify?

shopify logo
Shopify is an eCommerce platform that makes it extremely easy for anyone to begin selling their goods online. It takes a few minutes to create your account and you can begin importing products into your store.

They even have their own payment processor called Shopify Payments so that you don’t have to set up a separate payment gateway. They do charge their own processing fees which you can view here.

Shopify has four pricing plans. The basic plan starts at $29 per month, the regular Shopify plan is $79 per month, and Advanced Shopify is $299 per month.

They also offer a Shopify Lite plan which is $9 per month. Shopify Lite lets you add products to any website and use Shopify to do the checkout process.

My sister uses Shopify Lite to sell her cookbooks. It is a great option for selling one or a few products.

Who is Shopify Good For?

Anyone that has physical goods to sell can use Shopify for their online store. Whether you create your products, buy them wholesale, or choose to dropship, there is a Shopify plan for you.

If you plan on dropshipping using Shopify, you will need a dropshipping app such as Oberlo in order to dropship.

The Oberlo app lets you dropship items from AliExpress as well as their own vetted suppliers.

What is Dropified?

Dropified is dropshipping software that automates all of the processes of running your store. It integrates with shopping cart software such as Shopify, WooCommerce, CommerceHQ, and GearBubblePro.

They work with over 100 different suppliers to include popular sources such as AliExpress, Amazon, and eBay.

The software has a ton of features such as:

  • Add products in 1-click
  • Fullfill orders automatically
  • Auto update pricing
  • Auto update inventory
  • In-app product editor
  • Shipment tracking
  • Up to 25 sub users
  • Easily switch vendors
  • Connect existing products
  • Manage multiple stores in one place
  • Create product bundles

Dropified has two pricing plans. The Builder plan is $39 per month (when billed annually) or $47 per month. The Premier plan is $97 per month (when billed annually) or $127 per month.

You can test out either of these Dropified plans with a 14-day free trial.

How To Use Shopify and Dropified Together

As you can see, these two pieces of software are not quite alike at all. They are very different but can work hand-in-hand to create a fully automated dropshipping business.

Shopify is a state-of-the-art shopping cart platform that enables you to open your own eCommerce store in a matter of minutes.

However, Shopify is not a dropshipping store out of the box. You will still need a dropshipping app in order to dropship.

That is where software such as Dropified comes in. Dropified integrates with Shopify and automates all of the key functions of your dropshipping business.

Your orders can be automatically fulfilled in seconds rather than minutes.

What If I Already Have a Shopify Dropshipping Store?

Another perk with using Dropified is that you can integrate it with a Shopify store that is already established. Therefore, if you are already dropshipping items from your Shopify store but want all of the cool features of Dropified, all you have to do is connect the two.

Dropified can connect existing products that you are already selling. Add in the fact that you can control multiple stores from one place with Dropified makes the transition easy.

How Does Dropify Differ From Oberlo?

Oberlo is often the go-to dropshipping app for Shopify and with good reason. Shopify owns the Oberlo app. Oberlo has a ton of great features as well but Dropified has some advantages.

When it comes to store administration, Dropified stands out against Oberlo. Dropified enables you to manage multiple stores.

If you want to open an additional Shopify store, you would also have to create another Oberlo account as well.

Dropified also lets you have up to 25 sub-users that can have full or partial access. You can also create product bundles with Dropified which is a feature Oberlo does not have.

Another advantage is the number of suppliers available with Dropified. They work with over 100 different stores. You can also automate dropshipping from eBay to Shopify.

Dropified is the first dropshipping software to integrate eBay as a fully automated dropshipping partner.

Is It Worth It to Use Shopify and Dropified?

This is the big question. As you know, you’ll be paying fees to use both Shopify and Dropified. Therefore, it is important that you understand each of their features and if they meet your needs.

If you are an already established dropshipper with a Shopify store, Dropified could easily streamline your business.

If you are seeking to automate your dropshipping business in order to save time, Shopify and Dropified are a good combo.

Your best bet is to do a test trial of both and get a true hands-on experience.

Save On Monthly Software Fees With WooCommerce

If you are not a Shopify fan or prefer to save money on monthly fees, you can open a dropshipping store with WordPress and WooCommerce.

WooCommerce is a free WordPress eCommerce plugin that transforms a WordPress website into an eCommerce store.

Dropfied integrates with WooCommerce. Since both WordPress and WooCommerce are free, you will not incur any monthly software fees for either of them.

Compared to Shopify, you can save a minimum of $348 per year by using WooCommerce.

My Final Opinion On Shopify and Dropified

I feel that using Shopify and Dropified together is an ideal option for experienced dropshippers as the Dropified software can automate pretty much all aspects of your store.

The combo is also an ideal option if you already have a Shopify dropshipping store and want to open more stores but manage them from one location.

For new dropshippers, using both can feel a bit overwhelming but the good news is that you can try both free for 14-days. Dropified also has easy to follow training videos which can help a lot for beginners.

As mentioned earlier, if you want to save money or prefer not to use Shopify, open your dropshipping store with WordPress and the WooCommerce plugin.

Dropified integrates with WooCommerce so you can save a lot of money on monthly software fees this way.
