I’ve tried network marketing in the past and it wasn’t a good fit for me. I wasn’t good at recruiting people onto my team and it was difficult for me to pitch a business that I didn’t truly believe in.
What many network marketing (MLM, Relationship Marketing) companies gloss over is the fact that you have to sell.
Maybe you have dried up your immediate network of family and friends and the thought of trying to sell your business with strangers makes your stomach churn.
The good news is that there is an alternative to network marketing that involves zero recruitment efforts.
I will share the pitfalls of network marketing (in my opinion) and what you can do today to start your own online business that is low-cost and fun.
Network Marketing Can Be Expensive
A majority of network marketing companies require a few hundred dollars up front to get started. Sure, all businesses have start-up costs.
However, some MLM’s require $500 or more to start. On top of that, you are often required to buy their product on a monthly basis to stay “active” and earn volume points.
That can be a lot of money for many people who are seeking a low-cost business to start. More often than not, many who get involved with a network marketing company lose more money than they ever bring in.
Recruiting for Network Marketing is Tough
Network marketing is difficult and recruiting is part of the reason why many people search for an alternative to network marketing. It is difficult to approach strangers and try to sell them on your business.
Rejection is not an easy thing to deal with and most of the time, that is what you will face when you choose to be a part of an MLM (multi-level marketing) company.
There is also somewhat of a sleazeball feeling to recruiting. I only say that because of a tactic that was used on me.
I was told that there was a huge opportunity in the company and I would be placed in a key position.
In other words, if I were to join, I would be placed in someone else’s downline (team) in order to make the person recruiting me more money.
The thing about recruiting is that in order to make more money, you have to build your team (also referred to as your downline.)
It is Difficult to Retain People
You may wonder why a lot of network marketers continue to recruit for their downline when they are seeming to make an income from the business.
Like any business, there is a turnover rate. I can’t imagine how high it is in the network marketing industry. I know when I recruited team members, they all ended up quitting.
It is easy to understand why. If people do not have immediate results (income), they are bound to give up and quit.
Not only do you have to recruit for your downline, you have to keep your downline highly motivated as well as teach them how to make money in the business.
An Alternative to Network Marketing with Zero Recruiting Necessary
Chances are you researched or joined an MLM company because you are seeking a way out of your current situation.
Maybe you want to quit your job or you want to supplement your income. However, you soon realized that network marketing is not the best method.
I will share the business model I use now and why I recommend it to anyone who is seeking an alternative to network marketing and wants to turn their passion into profit.
How Affiliate Marketing Changed My Life
I am so glad to have learned about affiliate marketing. There are so many benefits to affiliate marketing that you simply cannot find in network marketing.
For one, there is zero recruiting necessary. You never have to worry about building your downline because there isn’t one.
Affiliate marketing is simply the promotion of another company’s products and/or services in exchange for a commission when a product or service is sold.
In other words, you can promote tons of affiliate products (which are free to promote) from your website and earn commissions.
A good example of an affiliate program you can join is Amazon Associates. When you join and are approved, you can promote any of the products on the Amazon.com website.
When someone clicks on one of your Amazon.com affiliate links and makes a purchase, Amazon will pay you a commission (percentage of the sale.)
I promoted a health product years ago that is still earning me income today. My efforts have resulted in extra income that has helped me out many tough times.
The Benefits of Affiliate Marketing
There are many great benefits to affiliate marketing that make it a great alternative to network marketing. These benefits include:
- Tons of products to promote
- Low-cost start-up (often under $100 or less)
- Work from anywhere with an internet connection
- No inventory to buy or sell
- No packages to ship
- No customer service
- No recruiting people to join your team
- Unlimited earning potential
- Lifestyle freedom
- Learning affiliate marketing is easy
Learn Affiliate Marketing Step-by-Step
Affiliate marketing is easy to learn. However, it takes hard work. If you are seeking a quick method to make money, then seek elsewhere.
When I made money online in the past, there were a lot of things I did wrong. It wasn’t until after I was laid off from my previous job that I took affiliate marketing seriously.
The primary way that I earn with affiliate marketing is by building niche affiliate websites. It is a lot of work up front but it pays off in the long run.
The good news is that if you do not want to invest that initial time up front, you can invest in high-quality ready-made niche affiliate websites.
The advantage is that these sites save you time and some are even already aged (meaning they are indexed and ranking in the search results.)
So long as you are willing to maintain your website by creating helpful content on a regular basis, it doesn’t matter if you start your website from scratch or buy a ready-made niche site.
I hope this post has helped in terms of finding an alternative to network marketing. I wish you much success in whatever online business venture you choose!
