Customer service based jobs are not often “fun” jobs. I’ve worked in customer service a few times in my life and disliked each of the jobs that I had. If you don’t want to work in a call center anymore, I understand how you are probably feeling right now.

If you stick with me through this post, I will explain how I was able to leave a retail job and work full-time for myself online. I don’t have clients, I don’t have my own product, and I definitely don’t deal with customer service!
It is called affiliate marketing and it is running your own website (a blog) on any topic that you like. With dedication and hard work, you can free yourself from a call center job and all jobs for that matter.
Why You Should Not Work in a Call Center
I’m sure you are already dealing with many of the issues that call center jobs have. You likely experience or recognize the following:
- Underappreciated for your work
- Lack of challenge
- No flexibility in your schedule
- Repetitive work
- No career growth (dead-end job)
- The pressure to meet quotas
- Abusive phone calls
- Low job satisfaction
- Low pay
It is highly likely that your co-workers are feeling the same way about their jobs as you do and that only brings down morale. Add in lousy management and it is guaranteed that the turnover rate will be high.
The good news is that you don’t have to limit yourself to a call center job or any other customer service based job.
I’ve worked in corporate environments and retail environments. Both have their positives and negatives. Either way, most jobs are not fun and most people are looking for a way out.

How to Get Out of a Call Center Job
The way I was able to get out of my retail job was by creating an online business. This isn’t as hard as you are probably thinking. In fact, it isn’t hard at all.
You don’t need a product, you don’t need technical knowledge, and you don’t need any sales experience. It is not about recruiting people (no pyramid schemes or gimmicks) to make money.
It is called affiliate marketing and it involves creating a niche affiliate website, essentially a blog like the one you are reading now.
Affiliate Marketing Definition
Affiliate marketing is the promotion of another company’s products in exchange for a commission when a sale is made.
We do affiliate marketing every day and we are not paid for it. When was the last time that you recommended a good restaurant or where to buy the best holistic pet food?
You get the idea! The restaurant you recommended made money from referring someone to eat there and the pet food store made money from your recommendation.
However, you didn’t get any money for your recommendations. Affiliate marketing programs pay you when someone who you refer buys a product.
It works like this:
Affiliate marketing is fun! You get to create a website on ANY topic (niche) that you want and recommend products that your audience needs or want.
How To Get Started with Affiliate Marketing
I’ll cover some affiliate marketing basics before we dive in. First, there are hundreds of thousands of affiliate programs available to join.
Major corporations have affiliate programs such as Walmart, Target, Amazon.com, eBay, and many more. All affiliate programs are free to join.
Some affiliate programs may have an approval process but for the most part, they approve quickly and sometimes instantly.
It is easy to find affiliate programs. You can do a search online by typing in “[niche] + affiliate program” or “[product] + affiliate program”.
You can also join an affiliate network such as ShareASale.com. Affiliate networks manage affiliate programs for different companies.
What You Need to Start
You don’t need very much to start and you can literally get started for under $20. Here are the things that you’ll need to get set up before you can begin:
What do you want your website to be about? A niche is simply a segment of a market or basically a group of people talking about the same thing.
There are millions of niches to choose from. I always recommend choosing a niche that you have a genuine interest in.
When you choose a niche that you like, you will have more fun creating content for your website. Here are some ideas:
- Healthy cooking using clay cookware
- Saving money for people in their twenties
- Homeschooling your children
- Finding the best shopping deals (online and offline)
- Dating advice for finding a spouse
People are in search of information every single day. They have questions pertaining to specific topics. You can focus in on a niche and make money from it!
Get a Domain Name
After you’ve narrowed down your niche, you will need to register a domain name. A domain name is the address of your website (yourwebsitename.com).
You can register a domain name at any domain registrar of your choice. I register a bulk of my domains at NameCheap.com. I’ve been using them for years with no issues.
Get Web Hosting
You will need a self-hosted WordPress website and to get one, all that you need to do is order a web hosting account from any commercial web hosting company.
I highly recommend NOT using a free website service. These free services limit the control you have over your website. They can place ads on your website and they may limit how you make money with your website.
A self-hosted WordPress blog gives you 100% ownership of your website. It is inexpensive to get web hosting. Most commercial web hosting providers offer 1-click WordPress installation so you don’t need any technical know-how.

Your Job After Your Niche Blog is Up
Once you have your website up, your job will be to create new blog posts (content) that relate to topics on your niche.
The content that you create will rank in the search engine results over time. This is what attracts free web traffic to your website.
When you have visitors, you are able to make sales as some people will click on your affiliate links and buy the products that you are promoting.
Some of the skills you will need to learn include:
- SEO (search engine optimization)
- Keyword research
- Creating helpful content
- Marketing (social media)
- Creating good product reviews
- How to put it all together
These are things that I had to learn when I decided to start my own niche affiliate website.
I didn’t want to spend a lot of time searching for this information. Instead, I wanted to find an affiliate marketing training course so I could get started off on the right foot.
