Tired of Working a Desk Job? – Gain Your Freedom Instead

I’ve worked in a cubicle for almost a decade as a web developer/designer. Initially, it was exciting to have an office job. After about a year or two, I grew tired of working a desk job.

Maybe you are feeling the drudgery of doing the same work day in and day out. After a while, the monotony becomes too much and you want to quit and do anything else but sit at a desk.

After being laid off from one of my desk jobs, I decided to turn to online business to free myself from the rat race. I’ll explain what I did and how you can use the same strategy as well.

I Started a Blog and Why You Should Too

typing on a blog

Blogging has freed many people from their day jobs. There are full-time mommy bloggers, personal finance bloggers, and bloggers in just about any niche that you can think of earning a living from their writing.

I wanted to do the same so after my job layoff, I got to work. I started a blog with the sole purpose of creating a consistent online income.

I got another job in the meantime but in my free time, I was plugging away at my blog creating content the best way I could. After about a year and a half, my blog was generating a consistent income.

Earning income with a blog is not fast money. It is an online business strategy in which you must put forth 100% of your effort. The work you do today pays off in the long term for years to come.

If you can dedicate time and effort to a desk job, then you can put forth time and effort for your own online business.

Start Your Blog Today – No Excuses

When friends or acquaintances find out that I earn income with a blog, they immediately want to know how to get started. I tell them that they need to get their own self-hosted WordPress blog and choose a niche to focus on.

Great! Then they never get started! A lot of times, people overthink the process. They have excuses such as:

  • I don’t know what to write about
  • I’m not a good writer
  • I don’t understand how blogs work
  • I don’t know how to set up a blog
  • I don’t have time to blog

The list can go on and on and on. If I had used any excuse when I started, my blog wouldn’t be generating income today. In fact, I wouldn’t have even started my blog.

I didn’t know everything when I started and I still don’t! The only thing I did know was that I was willing to do whatever it took to start earning income online.

I created content that I felt would benefit the people in my niche. It’s that simple. You learn as you go along and you improve as you go along but it won’t happen unless you take action and get your blog up.

Now that you know this, stop right now and get your blog. Do it today. I’ll recommend a web hosting provider that will do all of the technical stuff for you.

You can use any web host you want, just get started.

One of the web hosting providers I use and recommend is HostPapa. When you choose any of their Optimized WordPress Hosting Plans they provide you with a FREE domain name, FREE SSL, and auto-install WordPress for you. Grab this deal now!

How Do I Learn To Blog?

I wouldn’t say that there aren’t things that you need to learn. This is especially the case if you eventually want to earn income with your blog.

You still have to get started to begin learning. There are plenty of blogging courses that you can find and follow. I followed one myself and picked up a thing or two.

However, here are really the basics that you need to familiarize yourself with in order to have a great blog:

Write To Help The People In Your Niche

Your blog posts should always be written to put people first. After all, the visitors to your blog are real people who will read your content.

No one will stick around if they don’t find your writing helpful to themselves. Think about when you do a web search. Do you stay on a website that isn’t holding your interest? You probably click away pretty quickly.

This is why it is important to create helpful and informative content.

Get Blog Post Ideas By Doing Keyword Research

You’ll never run out of blog post ideas when you do keyword research. Researching keywords and keyword phrases enable you to find out exactly what people in your niche are needing help with.

I use a couple of free keyword tools. One of them being KeywordTool.io. When you know what people are needing help with, you can create blog posts to help answer their questions.

The more value that you can provide in your content, the more success you’ll have with your blog.

Write Regularly

You don’t have to write blog posts every single day but you should keep some type of posting schedule. If you can write one really good piece of content per week, then do it.

If you have more time and can write 2 to 3 times per week, go for it. The key is to write posts regularly. That is the basis of a blog. Without content, people will not find your posts and it will be more difficult to be a following of regular readers.

Promote Your Content

There are ways to get your very first visitors to your blog and that is through content promotion. One of my favorite methods of promoting my blog posts is by creating YouTube video tutorials.

Other social media channels work well also. However, I like to focus on one channel at a time. Right now, YouTube is my main focus when it comes to content promotion.

Figure out which social media platform you like best and work it to your advantage.

Learn About Monetizing Your Blog

This only applies if you are wanting to earn income with your blog in the future. It helps to learn about the various ways in which you can earn income.

Some of the most popular blog monetization methods include:

  • Affiliate marketing
  • Paid ads
  • Private ads
  • CPA offers
  • Sponsored posts
  • Selling your own products or services

Don’t Give Up

Finally, you have to shift your mindset. There were many times along my online journey that I thought about throwing in the towel. I told myself that blogging wouldn’t work for me.

However, I went into it promising myself that I wouldn’t give up. My mindset about earning income with my blog was stronger than my excuses. You have to make that mental shift as well.

In Conclusion

Starting a blog with the intent of freeing yourself from a desk job is possible. People have done it and continue to do it every single day.

The thing you need to ask yourself is how badly do you want it? If you’re truly fed up and tired of working a desk job, then say no to your excuses.

I’m not saying quit your job to start a blog. That isn’t the smart way to go. However, starting a blog while you still have a job is. You can work on your blog at your convenience.

Now build something great starting today!
