There are new blogs being created every day. Unfortunately, many people either underestimate or simply don’t realize the profit potential that blogging has.
Blogging can be profitable if you are willing to stick with it and learn how to monetize your blog. It requires consistent effort but the payoff is well worth it in the long run.
I tell people all of the time not to underestimate the profitability of starting a blog. I’ll explain why and how you can get started with learning how to create a profitable blog for free.
How I Got Started Blogging
I started blogging over a decade ago when I created a fitness blog in order to help me stay on track with my own personal fitness goals.
Little did I know that my blog would soon generate over 1,200 visitors a day. At the time, I didn’t know how to monetize my blog so it made little to no income.
I made many mistakes with my blog and I know I missed out on creating a consistent online income with it.
It wasn’t until many years later and a job layoff that I decided to take blogging seriously. I always knew of the profit potential but I didn’t know how to do it correctly.
Fortunately, I sought out an online blogging course and followed all of the training in it. I also got a new job and worked full-time.
I put in the time to work on my blog in every free moment I had. After 15 months of starting that job, I was able to quit and transition into working for myself.
So to answer the question, “can a blog be profitable?”, I say YES!
How Do Bloggers Make Money From Blogging?
You can make money with a blog in many different ways. Some of the most popular methods include:
- Affiliate Marketing
- Banner Ads
- PPC Ads
- CPA Ads
- Online Courses
However, the monetization method I like to use most is affiliate marketing. Why affiliate marketing?
I like affiliate marketing for so many reasons. Here are some of my favorite:
- You Don’t Need Your Own Product – There are tons of affiliate programs that you can join and promote various products related to the topic of your blog. There is no need to come up with your own product.
- Zero Customer Service – You don’t have to worry about shipping & handling, refunds, returns, or anything related to customer service. You simply refer your readers to a merchant’s website and they handle the sales process.
- No Recruiting – Affiliate marketing is not based on building a downline or network of other sellers. You simply promote products and earn a commission when they sell.
- Low-Cost Online Business – Becoming an affiliate marketer is free and creating your blog is extremely low-cost. All that you need is a domain name (approximately $12/year), web hosting ($3.95/month in most cases), and WordPress (free).
- Unlimited Earning Potential – Your earnings are based on how much effort you put into your blog. There is no limit to the amount of affiliate commissions that you can make.
- Work From Anywhere – So long as you have a WiFi connection, you can run your blog from anywhere in the world.
- Time Freedom – When you are able to earn a full-time income from affiliate marketing, you gain back your time. Your time is no longer controlled by an employer. This is the best benefit, right?
How Affiliate Marketing Works
The way affiliate marketing works is really simple. It is the process of promoting another company’s products or services in exchange for a commission when a sale is made.
You apply to an affiliate program. Once approved, you can copy and paste your affiliate links within the content of your blog posts.
If a visitor clicks on any of your affiliate links, a cookie is set in the visitor’s browser. This is how the merchants are able to credit you when a sale is made.
Of course, there is more to affiliate marketing than simply placing links on your blog. You have to understand how and when to place them as well as how to write for conversions.
I go more in-depth into this in my email course. You can access it for free here.
If you are interested in creating a blog for profit, there are probably some questions that you may have. This FAQ section may help you to have a better understanding.
How Much Work is Involved with Maintaining a Blog?
I am always up front with the work that is required to maintain a blog. The bulk of the work is in creating content on a regular basis. You cannot post 10 articles and expect a flood of web traffic. If you search around for some of the most popular blogs, you’ll notice that they post a lot of content on a consistent basis.
How Soon Will My Blog Make Money?
This is difficult to say, of course. Everyone works differently. Everyone chooses different niches for their blog. I’ve written about realistic blogging income here.
What if I am Not a Good Writer?
You do not need to be a great writer to maintain a blog. The key is to write in a conversational tone as if you’re writing to a friend.
How Long Do My Blog Posts Need to Be?
If you research this question, you will get varying answers. The most common answer is to write longer blog posts. I shoot for at least 1,200 words or more per post. I don’t always reach that goal. Longer articles have SEO benefits. Your blog posts can rank for various keywords and you provide quality content that benefits your readers.
Which Blog Niches Make the Most Money?
When it comes to choosing a niche, I often recommend choosing one that you have a genuine interest in. It helps when it comes to creating content on a regular basis. However, there are some niches that will always earn a good amount of income if you put in the work. They include:
I call these the three blog niches that will always make money. It is because they are evergreen niches.
Find a sub-niche within any of these niches and you will be well on your way to creating a profitable blog.
I think that blogging is often overlooked as a means to generate a consistent income online. It is easy to understand why. Earning income online can feel impossible for many people.
When you don’t know where to begin or how to best monetize your website, it can feel overwhelming, am I right?
Even with my previous blogging experience, I still wasn’t able to figure out how to create a consistent income with my blog.
It wasn’t until I focused on an online course that I liked and actually took action with what I learned that I began to earn income online.
Blogs are an awesome way for anyone to create an online business. The biggest reason why most people that try it don’t succeed is that they give up before they make any real progress.
Blogging is long-term and so are the rewards that you reap from sticking with it.
I’m happy to share the basis of what I learned as well as the training course I followed to get where I am today with my online business.
