It is no secret that attending college is expensive. Even community college is a huge expense when you are working to pay for tuition, books, and living expenses.
Having some extra money could make a huge difference. Wouldn’t it be nice to earn extra money without having to get a part-time job?
The good news is that it is possible through an online business. I’ve created an online business that earns a consistent income online.
I’ll show you how it works and how you can create your own.
The Type of Online Business I Recommend
While there are all kinds of online businesses in which you can start, I recommend affiliate marketing.
Being an affiliate marketer has many benefits. These benefits work well for college students. They include:
- Low start-up costs (you can even start for free)
- Work from anywhere with an internet connection
- You do not need your own product
- No shipping or handling
- No customer service
- Unlimited earning potential
- Time freedom
- Lifestyle feedom
How Affiliate Marketing Works
The way affiliate marketing works is a pretty simple process. You promote other company’s products and/or services in exchange for a commission when a sale is made.
It all starts with a customer searching for something on the web. They land on your website (niche blog) which contains the information they are looking for.
The customer is interested in a product that you are recommending and click on one of your affiliate links (a special tracking link provided by the merchant).
If the customer buys the product, you are credited with the sale and earn a commission. Commissions can be as high as 75% (sometimes more).
What is a Realistic Income as an Affiliate Marketer?
You’re probably wondering what type of income can be made with this online business model?
The sky is the limit, after all, it is your business and your income is based on your efforts.
The below income is quite possible with consistent effort:
- 3 months in = a few sales
- 6 months in = $0-$500 per month
- 12+ months in = $1,000-$5,000 per month
You have to keep in mind that this particular business model involves niche blogging.
Creating a niche blog requires content creation. Creating content is what attracts targeted visitors to your website.
Creating content involves SEO (search engine optimization). SEO involves keyword research that helps to rank you higher in the search engines.
Overall, SEO takes time. This is why it is important to understand that when you create your online business, you have to give it time to grow, just like any other business.
How to Become a Niche Blogger in 4 Steps
Niche blogging involves four basic steps. Anyone can become a niche blogger and you’d be surprised as to how many people from all walks of life are.
There are many niche bloggers that I know of that are earning well into 5-figures a month. With hard work and consistent effort, there is no reason why you cannot achieve similar success.
Step 1: Choose a Niche
The first step is to choose a niche. You cannot be a niche blogger without having a niche that you focus your blog around.
A niche can be anything you like! The first thing I tell people is to write down a list of everything you have a genuine interest in.
For example, I have a genuine interest in creating online businesses, that is why I created the blog you are reading now.
Once you have your list created, begin the process of elimination by asking yourself which niche is it that you can write about on a regular basis without becoming bored.
Don’t stress too much about this process. There are many people (including myself) that have started out in one niche only to end up in a completely different one later on.
Another option is to ask yourself what is it that you have always wanted to know more about? You can create a ton of content around learning something as you go along.
Step 2: Get a Website
This is not difficult at all with all of the free website services out there. However, to help ensure your success, I recommend using WordPress. It is free to download and install.
You will also need web hosting to host your WordPress website. The nice thing is that many web hosting providers will install WordPress for you or have one-click install available.
Step 3: Create Content
Content creation is the bread-and-butter of your online business. Your job is to create genuinely helpful content for your readers related to your niche.
Don’t worry if you feel you are not a great writer. The great thing about blogging is that you can write in a conversational tone.
Step 4: Earn Revenue
Finally, one of the best parts of having a niche blog is being able to earn income with it.
As mentioned earlier, the monetization method of choice for myself and many other niche bloggers is affiliate marketing.
There are tons of affiliate programs in which you can join. Amazon.com (Amazon Associates) being one of the largest.
No matter the niche you choose, there are sure to be products that you can promote.
As you drive traffic to your blog with your content, you will also earn commissions from the sales of those affiliate products.
It would be impossible for me to cover everything that you should know about being a niche blogger.
There are a lot of important things that you should learn in order to help ensure your success.
I knew this when I started which is why I sought out a reputable online business training course.
Unfortunately, I spent years trying to do things “my way” and learn by reading various different online marketing blogs.
The problem was that I ended up trying so many different strategies that I ended up getting nowhere.
That is why I urge people to follow an actual course that may help them speed up the learning curve.
I wanted a course that showed a tried-and-true method to creating a business online.
Fortunately, I did and after following the training and putting in the work, I earn a consistent income online today.

I will be in touch with you when you do and I’ll be able to help answer any questions that you have along the way.
