So you’re looking into buying a ready-made niche website and you aren’t sure if it’s the right choice for you.
Chances are you want to start affiliate marketing or you have dabbled in it a little bit and haven’t really made a consistent income online.
I’ll explore the pros and cons as well as share my own experience with niche site creation to help you decide whether to buy a ready made niche website.
If I Buy a Ready Made Niche Website Will I Have an Advantage?
This is the common question for new affiliate marketers that are going into the business of creating niche websites.
There are many successful affiliate marketers out there that are earning full-time incomes from their portfolio of niche websites. Some are doing well with only one website.
What deters many new to this online business model is the fact that it is typically a slow process, therefore they want to speed things up by buying a pre-made niche site.
Maybe you fall into this category. If you have never owned a niche website before, there are some things you’ll need to consider.
First off, you will not necessarily have a major advantage with a ready-made niche website. Let’s take a look at two popular services that sell these type of websites.
The first is Empire Flippers. This is an online marketplace where you can buy and sell websites that earn income online.
I did some quick browsing for a niche site that was monetized with the Amazon affiliate program (Amazon Associates).
Here is a screen capture of what I found:
This particular website earns an average of $3,267 per month which is awesome for an Amazon affiliate website.
However, this website is not cheap! It is selling for $81,673. That is expensive for anyone starting out.
If you have zero experience with maintaining a niche site, it is very risky to invest large sums of money for an established website like this.
Here is another example, this time from Flippa.com:
This website is much more affordable at $150 but it is very new (12 months old) and is earning $10 per month if that.
You may think, “hey cool, this site is affordable and will save me the time of building it myself”.
Let’s consider a few things first.
It Could Be Earning More at 12 Months Out
It is not unheard of for an Amazon affiliate website to be earning a decent amount of money within one years time.
It really all depends on the work ethic of the owner as well as their strategy on how they grow their website.
You Could End Up Putting in More Work
Let’s say you bought that website for $150. You could end up putting in more work to build traffic to it than if you had created a niche site from scratch.
You will need content to drive targeted visitors to your website. One of the highest-earning affiliate websites I know of (www.outdoorgearlab.com) puts out high-quality content on a regular basis.
This is work that you simply cannot get around and as a new affiliate, this is work that you will be doing yourself.
You have no idea how much effort the previous owner of that $150 put into the website. Did they do keyword research? Is the content quality good? What are you really buying?
Why Beginners Should Build Their Own Niche Website
If you have never built a niche website on your own, you are doing yourself a disservice. I say this because there are so many things you will learn from the process.
You do not need to know the ins and outs of how WordPress works. What you do need to learn and become well-versed in include marketing skills such as:
- Niche research
- Keyword research
- Writing with intent
- Writing for conversions
Not only that, but when you build your own niche site, you learn from your mistakes. The mistakes that you make are just as valuable.
Another huge benefit is that once you have created one website and built it up to earning a consistent monthly income, you can repeat the process over and over.
That is a skill that no one can take away. Once you have mastered these skills, you can then outsource a lot of the work to save yourself time.
It is then that buying ready made niche websites makes sense. You’ll be more knowledgeable about what to look for and ensure that you will receive a return on your investment.
Is There a Time When Buying a Pre-Made Niche Site is Smart?
Yes, there is a time that investing in a pre-made niche website is wise.
As mentioned briefly above, once you are well-versed in how to create them, you’ll be better equipped to know what to look for.
Someone experienced in building niche sites can usually spot from a mile away when someone is selling a website that isn’t worth the time, money, or effort.
Is There a Time When Beginners Can Still Buy a Pre-Made Niche Site?
There is one exception in which I will say yes. I get it, some beginners have absolutely no clue how to start but are anxious to get started right away.
In this case, you can search for niche site services that sell ready made niche websites or will create a custom one for you.
What you want to look for is that the service is reputable and that they provide training and support to go along with your new website.
If I were to buy a ready made website today, I’d likely do so from Human Proof Designs. They put out a really good product and offer ongoing support and training.
This is better than buying a pre-made website from another marketplace that doesn’t include any support or training. As a beginner, you would be struggling to build your business.
As an affiliate marketer and niche website creator, the one important thing I want to point out is that this is a business.
It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of earning income online. This also makes it easy to forget the work that is involved to achieve success.
Niche websites take time to develop and grow. Allow yourself that time and don’t give up.
Buying a ready-made niche site can offer a slight advantage if you are well aware of what you are buying.
