After using Clickfunnels for about 3 months, I wanted to write a blog post about whether or not Clickfunnels is worth it for building an online business.
My short answer is yes, BUT it truly depends on what your business is doing. Are you selling a physical or digital product? Are you in a service profession and want to upsell your higher-ticket products or services? Clickfunnels can help tremendously in many cases.
In all honesty, I think Clickfunnels is awesome but for what I used it for, I didn’t need to spend $97 per month to accomplish the same thing by just using an autoresponder service.
What is Clickfunnels Used For?
The primary purpose of using Clickfunnels is to create sales funnels. A sales funnel is a type of website that leads subscribers through a buying process.
It usually consists of an opt-in page and thank you page. However, funnels can be as simple or as complex as you want.
Many sales funnels will have upsell and downsell pages. Below is a sketch of a very basic sales funnel consisting of a squeeze page (opt-in) and thank you page:
It consists of a squeeze page that has a lead magnet (free offer) as an incentive for a visitor to sign up. Once the visitor subscribes, they are taken to a thank you page.
The thank you page has the offer promised on the squeeze page. Now the subscriber is opted-in to your email list and you can begin sending them email messages on a regular basis in order to promote your offers.
Here is an example of a landing page for a real estate funnel:
Clickfunnels makes it extremely easy to create a simple funnel such as this without any web experience required. It is a matter of choosing a template and dragging/dropping elements on the page.
Yet, I can accomplish these same basic sales funnels using an autoresponder and my blog.
ConvertKit is the autoresponder service I use. They provide a basic landing page and several types of inline forms. I use them on my own blog. Check the sidebar and below any blog post.
I create a “thank you” page on my blog and redirect users that subscribe through one of my opt-in forms to it. I place my redirect link in my form settings inside of Seva.
Seva then sends my messages to my list according to when I scheduled them to send.
But Doesn’t Clickfunnels Have an Autoresponder Feature?
Yes, there is an autoresponder feature inside of Clickfunnels but in order to use it, you would need to upgrade to the full Clickfunnels Suite which costs $297 per month.
Their autoresponder has many features included such as the ability to track where your visitors are coming from, segment them based on the actions they take, who they are, and more.
I know of one successful internet marketer that uses the full Clickfunnels Suite (Etison) but does not utilize the autoresponder service.
I feel that most autoresponder services are more than adequate in terms of collecting leads and following up with your email list.
Clickfunnels is Not a Pyramid Scheme
There are tons of affiliates promoting the Clickfunnels service. The reason is that they have a really good affiliate program offering commissions on upsells and recurring sales.
With all of these affiliates doing promotion, many people may come across the service and become confused as to what it is.
One thing is for certain, Clickfunnels is NOT a pyramid scheme.
Clickfunnels Complaints and What Does Clickfunnels Cost?
The biggest complaints I have come across when searching for reviews and information about Clickfunnels are the pricing and the membership service.
They offer two monthly pricing plans: $97 and $297.
At the $97 per month price point, you are limited to 20 funnels, 100 pages, and 20,000 visitors per month.
At the $297 per month price point, you have unlimited funnels, traffic, pages, and domains. It also includes features such as:
- Backpack – Run affiliate programs inside your funnels
- Actionetics – Autoresponder
- Memberships – Create membership websites
I have read more than once from former Clickfunnels users that the membership feature is a bit buggy. I do not know this from personal experience.
What I’ve experienced with using the service has been great. The software is user-friendly, the templates look professional, and anyone can have a funnel up in a matter of minutes.
Is Clickfunnels Worth the Money?
If you have a product of your own to sell whether physical or digital or are in a service profession (doctor, attorney, real estate agent, etc.), then Clickfunnels may do wonders for your business.
For example, here is a value ladder for a chiropractor business:
A chiropractor could create a similar value ladder and create a sales funnel with Clickfunnels that leads their subscribers through the funnel process.
The great thing about sales funnels is that once they are up and running, they are constantly working for you. Your job is to generate a consistent flow of web traffic to them.
Here is an example of a landing page for a chiropractor funnel:
Here is the thank you page that is seen after someone signs up:
Where I feel Clickfunnels shines is if you are wanting to sell products directly in your funnel, you can do so easily by adding buy buttons and creating check-out forms.
I also feel it is great for upselling your products. You can create one-time-offer pages as well as downsell pages (offering your products at a discounted price.)
One popular method for using the service is to create a funnel that sells a low-ticket item (such as a free book but pay for shipping) and once buyers are in the funnel, you upsell them on higher-ticket products.
You would need to have the Etison Suite to accomplish this ($297 per month.) If you are certain that your business would utilize all of the features that Clickfunnels offers, it is well worth it.
One story I found fascinating was that of Trey Lewellen and his using of a sales funnel to sell flashlights:
What About Equivalent Services?
There are other services available in which you can create landing pages to collect user emails and other information.
Most are less expensive than Clickfunnels. One leading competitor is LeadPages. You can build unlimited landing pages for $37 per month. Other services you can check out include Unbounce and Thrive Themes (for WordPress.)
Overall, if your business could benefit from sales funnels, order forms, affiliate programs, and membership software, then Clickfunnels is definitely software that you should consider.
If anything you can take advantage of their 2-week free trial and figure out if it is a good fit for your business.
Otherwise, if your needs can be met using an autoresponder to build and communicate with your list, you’re better off saving your money.
I was impressed with Clickfunnels. When you have a product or service that you want to sell, the software will get the job done.
You really have to take pricing into account as it is not an inexpensive service. Once your funnels are earning income, the service pays for itself.
