What is AliDropship?
You are likely already familiar with the concept of dropshipping. In short, you promote the products of a company that ships the orders directly to your customers when they’ve made a purchase.
This allows you to have your very own e-commerce store full of products that you didn’t have to buy in advance. You also don’t have to concern yourself with shipping and handling.
That is what makes dropshipping such an attractive online business model. The AliDropshop plugin makes creating your own online store a breeze.
It is a WordPress plugin that connects to AliExpress.
AliExpress is an online retail service which is owned by Alibaba. A majority of their products are provided by small Chinese businesses.
You can buy products in bulk and many products are available for sale one piece or more at a time. You can use the plugin to import products from AliExpress right into your own online store.
You would need to have an e-commerce enabled WordPress theme such as WooCommerce for your online store.
In terms of AliDropship, you have two options. You can buy just the plugin or you can order a custom store in which they handle everything for you.
They will do the niche research, set up your .com domain name, provide a custom design, Google analytics integration, products, payment gateway, and more.
Their basic package costs $299 which is a bargain if you do not have any technical background and are hesitant of setting up your store by yourself.
Using The AliDropship Plugin By Itself
In order to use the AliDropship plugin by itself, you will need to have WordPress installed with an AliDropship e-commerce enabled theme.
AliDropship has built-in themes available and also has a version of their plugin that is compatible with WooCommerce themes.
There is a significant difference between the two versions of the plugin. One of which is that the WooCommerce compatible version does not include any of the plugin’s marketing tools such as an abandoned cart, email list, cross-sell, or discounts.
If you’re just starting out, the original version of the plugin is likely your best bet.
AliDropship vs Oberlo
There is a service similar to AliDropship called Oberlo.
The primary difference between the two is that Oberlo works specifically with Shopify.
When I used my free trial of Shopify I was able to implement Oberlo and get a good grasp of how it works.
Oberlo makes it easy to add and remove products from AliExpress right into your Shopify store. Best of all, it is free to use.
I also learned of AliDropship during that time. I did my own research of which would be a better deal between AliDropship and Shopify in terms of features and costs.
In the end, I prefer the AliDropship plugin compared to Shopify and Oberlo. The costs and features of AliDropship outweigh those of Shopify and Oberlo in my opinion.
The Cost Difference Between AliDropship and Shopify / Oberlo
When it comes to building an AliExpress dropshipping business, it helps to save as much as you can without sacrificing features.
Although I feel Shopify and Oberlo work very well, expenses can be high. Take a look at the screen capture below of a Shopify dropshipping store that was for sale:
As you can see, this particular store installed various other Shopify apps for various added features. The expenses are $150 per month to include Shopify’s basic store plan.
When you consider that WordPress is free and the AliDropship plugin is a one-time fee with zero ongoing monthly software fees, it makes it really easy to decide.
Is AliDropship Worth $89 – Yes and Here’s Why
Dropshipping is an awesome online business model. It is low-cost to get started and between the AliDropship plugin, WordPress (which is free), and web hosting, you can have your business started for well under $200.
What I like most about the plugin is that your online store is yours to keep. Unlike opening a store with Shopify, if you wanted to move your store, you would lose everything.
The only thing you would be able to take is an export of your products. When you use the AliDropship plugin, your e-commerce store is yours.
That means if you need to switch web hosts for some reason, all you would have to do is move your WordPress install (database and related files) to your new hosting provider.
As a business owner, having complete ownership of your store is crucial.
Another plus is the savings you will have by investing in AliDropship. In comparison to Shopify, you will spend a one-time fee of $89 (plugin only) or $137 (plugin and optional yearly web hosting).
In comparison, you would spend $348 per year at Shopify’s lowest monthly plan. That is a huge difference in costs.
Things to Keep in Mind with the AliDropship Plugin
The main thing to keep in mind is that by only buying the plugin, you will be responsible for installing WordPress, activating the plugin, and customizing your online store.
That is not a problem if you are already accustomed to using WordPress.
However, if you are technically challenged and do not want to handle it all yourself, you do have the option of ordering a custom store from AliDropship.
Overall, I think the plugin is well worth the $89 price tag. It will make creating a dropshipping e-commerce store so much easier.
Since it works directly with AliExpress, you will have tons of products to choose from to add to your store.
