Let’s start off by defining what a niche is. According to Merriam-Webster, a niche is:
the situation in which a business’s products or services can succeed by being sold to a particular kind or group of people
A niche website is a website that focuses on one specific topic (niche). For example, let’s take the health & fitness industry.
The health & fitness topic is very broad. Getting web traffic to such a broad niche would be difficult.
However, if you find a niche within this broad topic, you are more likely to get organic web traffic as well as make sales to people searching for information about your niche.
Example of a Niche Website
Sticking to our health & fitness theme, a niche within that would be Paleo recipes. There is a whole paleo movement and people are always searching for information on the topic.
Nom Nom Paleo is an example of a niche website.
What other niches can you think of under health & fitness? Here are some more:
- Weight loss for women over 50
- How to get six-pack abs
- Ketogenic diet recipes
An easy way to pick a niche is to write down topics you are interested in. Think of your hobbies or favorite activities that you could write about all the time.
Type the things on your list into Amazon.com or eBay.com and see what types of products show up. These are products which you can promote on your niche website.
Affiliate marketing is how you can monetize a niche website.
Why I Build Niche Websites and Why You Should Too!
Building niche websites is a great way to earn extra income. They are fun to create and if you are passionate about the niche you choose, you actually help people out in the process.
My goal with the niche websites I create is to have a full-time income from them. Although I have been doing affiliate marketing for a long time, I never had a plan in place to create a long-term online business.
Like most affiliate marketers, it is important to seek out training and guidance. Some affiliates do very well learning on their own. I did this for years but it didn’t work out very well for me.
I’ve had my successes with affiliate marketing, but not at the level I want it to be. You can read about my story here.
