personal injury law firm marketing

I worked for a law firm marketing company for a few years. I worked on many personal injury attorney websites.

Building websites for attorneys all day wasn’t the most exciting job.

However, there were some aspects of it that I did enjoy. I enjoyed designing new websites but I also had a deeper interest in the marketing of the websites.

Unfortunately, I was laid off from that company so I wasn’t able to delve deeper into the marketing process.

I did take away some basic but very important law firm website development tips that I feel every law firm should be implementing on their own websites.

These strategies are easy to incorporate and can help increase your conversion rate. One strategy that I feel is severely underutilized is blogging.

I will explain why I favor blogging most and share how one client got hundreds of new leads for his firm by maintaining a blog.

Ensure Your Main Practice Area is in Focus

When a visitor lands on your website, it is important that they know immediately if you specialize in what they need in an attorney.

If for example, your area of expertise is personal injury, it should be prominently stated on your homepage as well as throughout your entire website.

One of the best ways to accomplish this is by stating it in the main header of your website.

It should be in large enough font to catch a visitor’s eye. Here are a couple of ways to state your practice area:

San Diego Personal Injury Lawyers – Car Accident Specialists or

Personal Injury Attorneys Serving San Diego County

Remember that visitors have short attention spans. If they do not readily see that you are a personal injury attorney, they will likely click away and move on with their search.

Keyword Research for Your Practice Area

You’ll want to have the best chances of reaching as many targeted visitors as possible.

One way to do this is by doing long-tail keyword research.

I use a keyword tool called, Jaaxy. Here are some awesome keywords I researched using Jaaxy.

A personal injury attorney in San Diego could use these long-tail keywords as their main practice area title or for SEO (search engine optimization) titled content:

*QSR = the number of competing websites in Google. The lower the number, the higher your chance of ranking for the keyword. I choose keywords with a QSR under 100. However, under 300 is also a good score.

  • personal injury attorney san diego ca – 352 monthly searches (QSR* 48)
  • san diego personal injury attorney – 745 monthly searches (QSR 186)
  • san diego personal injury attorneys – 298 monthly searches (QSR 176)
  • san diego ca personal injury attorney – 139 monthly searches (QSR 38)
  • san diego personal injury law firm – 128 monthly searches (QSR 104)

Many law firms outsource their SEO to a company that specializes in it. However, it doesn’t hurt to do your own keyword research as well.

If you ever want to target a specific audience or topic, doing your own keyword research can benefit you greatly.

Try out Jaaxy for yourself by entering a keyword in the box below:

Include Your Phone Number On Every Page

This may seem like a no-brainer but it is something that is easily overlooked. Don’t assume that your visitors will search for your contact page.

Your phone number should be visible and in a prominent position on every page of your website. At the very top of your site is an ideal location.

If you outsource your website work to a web developer or designer, they should know how to place your phone number on every page very easily.

If you do not have a website yet and plan to create one on your own using WordPress, adding your phone number to every page can be as simple as placing it into a WordPress widget.

Place a Contact Form on Every Page of Your Website

Contact forms are essential for any attorney website. You should make it as easy as possible to capture potential leads.

With a WordPress website, it is easy to place a contact form on all of your pages. There are plugins that will accomplish this.

I also recommend placing a contact form on your main contact us page. I use a WordPress plugin called Contact Form 7.

Again, your web developer or designer can handle this task for you. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, you can achieve the same results with a bit of research.

You may notice that I mention WordPress a lot. WordPress is an ideal content management system (CMS) for almost every type of website.

Many law firms utilize WordPress to power their websites. Depending on who you outsource your web development to, you could pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars for your website.

If you are a solo attorney or a small law firm on a budget, getting your own WordPress website up is extremely easy.

I often refer people to SiteRubix. It is a free niche website builder that will install WordPress in under 30 seconds.

What I like about SiteRubix is that it is ad-free, easy to use, and you are provided with free internet marketing training through Wealthy Affiliate. You can even buy your domain name there as well.

Install Live Chat Software On Your Law Firm Website

live chat software

A useful piece of software to install on your website is live chat software. I used to use a great live chat software called, Olark.

It is free to try out and to install it is a matter of copy and pasting code into your website.

When someone contacts you via the chat form, you are notified on your smartphone. You can reply immediately. Otherwise, the Olark can take a message for you.

It is a convenient and easy way to capture leads. Being able to answer someone’s question in a timely manner increases the chances of obtaining them as a new client.

Make Sure Your Website is Mobile Friendly

Having a mobile-friendly website should go without saying. It is not a luxury but a necessity for any business.

A majority of people browse from their smartphones and tablets. If your website isn’t mobile-friendly, your conversion rate could drop tremendously.

Nowadays, most web designers and developers build mobile-friendly websites as a standard.

Even the free WordPress themes available today are mobile-friendly. Having a website that doesn’t adjust for smartphones and tablets is old school and obsolete.

I wouldn’t recommend keeping a website that doesn’t adjust for smaller screens. It would need to be updated or you could create a new website.

Utilize a Blog to Generate Highly Targeted Website Traffic

I can’t stress enough the importance of having a blog.

A blog works best when it is updated with high-quality and helpful content. I try to blog on my own website almost every day.

Posting two to three times a week works just as well. Some attorneys and small law firms will not maintain a blog because of time constraints.

However, there are ways around having to create fresh content on a regular basis. You can easily outsource the writing to a professional or to someone on your staff.

Obtaining free organic traffic from your blog doesn’t happen overnight. Over time, with regular content updates, your website can receive hundreds of targeted visitors.

If your website doesn’t currently have a blog, you can create one for free.

How One Attorney Generates Tons of Free Traffic to His Law Firm Website

When I worked at my previous job of building attorney websites using WordPress, there was one client that took the advice of blogging seriously.

He outsourced the writing to someone else (either a staff member or other copywriter).

His blog was updated almost every day with new content. All of the unique content began to rank well in the search engines such as Google and Bing.

Now he receives hundreds of targeted visitors to his website on a daily basis. In fact, I remember one of the project managers stating that he was one of the main clients that actually listened when it came to SEO (search engine optimization).

You can accomplish the same thing! Get yourself a blog and start writing content that your targeted visitors are in search of.

I learned how to write content that converts visitors into leads inside of Wealthy Affiliate.

Wealthy Affiliate is the company behind SiteRubix. It is an all-in-one website and internet marketing training course.

You can learn more about how the training works by reading my Wealthy Affiliate FAQ page.

Create Niche Websites to Attract Even More Leads

Even if you already have a blog, you can create new ones within specific niches to attract even more targeted leads.

For example, if you are a personal injury attorney, you could create a blog about personal injury topics and cater it to your location.

Doing some quick keyword research using Jaaxy, I came up with some excellent blog post titles for personal injury blog posts:

  • car accident attorney in san diego – 776 monthly searches (QSR 68)
  • car accident lawyer in san diego – 989 monthly searches (QSR 138)

All you would have to do is give your writer access to your keyword tool to help them generate blog post titles to write about.

In Conclusion

I truly hope that some of these law firm web development tips have been helpful. Generating leads is a never ending process.

The internet can help make the process much easier. Learning about SEO and how to drive targeted traffic to your website can help boost your business for years to come.
